University College Oxford Senior Scholarship

You will receive around £7,000 per year (approximately 8,000 EUR) for up to 3 years to undertake a research degree at University College, one of the colleges of the University of Oxford. This is a supplementary scholarship: it is intended to provide financial support for your studies but does not cover the full costs, so it can be combined with other funding you may receive. It is aimed at students pursuing a DPhil – the name given to a doctoral degree at Oxford.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are undertaking a research degree at University College, Oxford, and plan to obtain a DPhil (doctorate).
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• College: You are studying at University College (also known as ‘Univ’), not at any other college in Oxford.

How to apply

There is no separate form. You apply for your Master’s programme at Oxford by the relevant application deadline in December or January. You will then automatically be considered for any college scholarships for which you are eligible, regardless of whether or not you list University College as your first choice.

How realistic are your chances?

As the scholarship is tied to a specific college at Oxford and to PhD students, the pool of applicants is smaller than for university-wide scholarships. Admission to Oxford is highly competitive in itself, so the real challenge lies in securing a research place at University College. If you secure this place and meet the requirements, you will automatically be considered, so you do not need to worry about submitting an additional application.
