What you get

You will receive a one-off grant of about 3,450 EUR (£3,000), which will be paid out in the following academic year. The grant is valid for one year only and cannot be extended. University College London (UCL) awards this grant to recognise its top-performing undergraduate students.

Who can qualify

• University: You are enrolled as a Bachelor’s student at UCL.
• Study year: You are in the first or second year of your Bachelor’s degree.
• Enrolment: You study full time.
• Field of study: Any subject is eligible. All full-time Bachelor’s degree programmes are eligible to take part.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Money: Your income is irrelevant. Awards are based solely on academic merit.
• Grades: You are one of the top-performing students in your department.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. Your department nominates its best first- and second-year students, and the deans of the faculties make the final decision. Departments must submit their nominations by 17 October, and faculties by 31 October. The selected students will be notified regarding payment by the beginning of November.

How realistic are your chances?

As you cannot apply yourself, your chances depend on you being among the best in your year group and being nominated by your department. Each department awards only a small number of these prizes each year, so the bar is set high. If your grades place you amongst the best in your year group, you have a genuine chance. Otherwise, there is nothing to submit.
