About this scholarship

Michael Curtis UCL Bursary

You will receive about 42,000 EUR (£36,108) for one academic year to complete the Master’s programme in Economics at University College London (UCL). This amount will initially cover your tuition fees. The remaining amount will be paid out in three equal instalments throughout the year to help with your living costs. You may combine this scholarship with other scholarships; however, UCL reserves the right to reduce the amount depending on how much additional financial support you receive. Two scholarships are available for 2026/27: a Michael Curtis Scholarship and a Sabina Kamber Scholarship. Both are of the same value and are subject to the same rules.

Who can apply

  • Programme: You have applied for the one-year full-time MSc programme in Economics at UCL for 2026/27.
  • Residence: You are normally resident in the United Kingdom and are entitled to the ‘Home (UK)’ fee rate.
  • Financial need: You require financial support, as determined by the UCL Student Funding Office.
  • Prior degrees: You may also apply if you already hold a Master’s or PhD degree; however, preference will be given to applicants without a prior Master’s degree.

How to apply

You apply once via UCL’s ‘Master’s Funding Awards’ platform. This single application will be considered for all funding schemes for which you meet the eligibility criteria. You must first have submitted a complete application for admission to the MSc Economics, including your references. The application deadline is Thursday, 25 June 2026, at 5 (BST), and successful applicants will receive a response by early August 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

Only two scholarships will be awarded. Both will go to applicants resident in the United Kingdom who are starting the same Master’s programme and can demonstrate genuine financial need; the pool of eligible candidates is therefore small, but competition for these two places is fierce. If you clearly meet the criteria – particularly if you do not yet hold a Master’s degree – it is worth applying. Please submit your application well in advance of the June deadline so that your references can be checked in good time.
