What the John Salmon MSci Prize is

You will receive a academic prize, which is awarded once a year by the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham. This prize recognises MSci students who have achieved outstanding results during their studies; the award ceremony takes place as part of the faculty’s annual events. An MSci is an integrated Master’s degree in the natural sciences, a five-year programme that combines a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree into a single course. In some years, there is more than one winner, with the highest marks and the best MSci project being recognised separately. The amount of the prize money is not disclosed.

Who can win

• University: You’re studying at the University of Nottingham.
• Faculty: You are in the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy.
• Degree: You are enrolled on the MSci programme (integrated Master’s in Natural Sciences).
• Results: You have achieved the highest marks on your MSc course or written the best MSc dissertation.
• Nationality: Open to students of all nationalities.

How you are chosen

There is no application process. Each year, the Head of the School of Physics and Astronomy nominates the award winners. The selection is made internally on the basis of your MSci results and your final dissertation.

How realistic are your chances?

It is not possible to apply for this award, so there is no deadline to meet. The prize is awarded to the best MSci students studying Physics at Nottingham; the decision is made by the faculty itself. The only way to be shortlisted is to be among the top students in your year on the MSci programme.
