Bruce McLean - Betty and Peter McLean Prize

What you get

You receive a one-off prize of about EUR 1,150 (GBP 1,000) plus the chance to meet the artist Bruce McLean in person. It is funded by Bruce McLean and named after his parents, Betty and Peter McLean. One graduating master's student wins it each year. This is a single cash prize, not a monthly grant.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are finishing an MA Fine Art or MA Fine Art (Ceramics) degree.
• University: You study at Bath Spa University in the UK.
• Your work: Clay or ceramics is a significant part of your work. This includes MA Fine Art (Ceramics) students submitting work for the Master's Project module.
• Grades: You win on the quality of the work you show, not on financial need.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you are on one of these programmes.

How to apply

There is no application form. You simply present your work at the university's annual Degree Show. Bruce McLean and Bath Spa lecturer Conor Wilson pick the winner from the work on display.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is cut very narrowly. Only finishing master's students at one university who work in ceramics are considered, so few people compete for it. If you are on the MA Fine Art or MA Fine Art (Ceramics) course and clay is central to your work, you are already in the running with no extra steps. It comes down to the quality of the single body of work you show at the Degree Show.
