University of Glasgow - World Changers RUK Access Bursary

What you get

You get up to £3,000 per year (about 3,500 EUR) paid in cash to help you study full time at the University of Glasgow. This is a need-based award, meaning it goes to students whose family income is low. The exact amount depends on your household income and the year you start:

• Starting September 2027/2028: £2,500 per year (about 2,900 EUR) if your household income is under £25,000, or £1,500 per year (about 1,750 EUR) if it is between £25,000 and £35,000.
• Starting September 2024/2025 to 2026/2027: £3,000 per year (about 3,500 EUR) if your household income is under £25,000.

The money is paid in 10 instalments straight into your UK bank account, from late October to late July. You can renew it each year as long as you still meet the rules and move into the next year of study.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are a new full-time student in the first year of your first undergraduate degree at the University of Glasgow.
• Where you live: You are a UK national who normally lives in England, Wales or Northern Ireland (not Scotland).
• Fees: You pay the full annual tuition fee.
• Financial need: You receive the full means-tested student loan from Student Finance England, Wales or Northern Ireland, and your household income is within the threshold above.
• Data sharing: You allow Student Finance to pass your household income details to the University.
• Subject: You study one of over 90 undergraduate programmes across all subject areas. Nursing and Product Design Engineering are not eligible.
• Not eligible: Postgraduate students and anyone doing a second undergraduate degree.

How to apply

There is no separate application. Apply for the full means-tested support through Student Finance and agree to share your income details with the University. The University then checks your eligibility automatically. If you qualify, you are told in October.

How realistic are your chances?

This bursary is not competitive. It is awarded on fixed rules, not by ranking applicants. If you study at Glasgow, live in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, receive the full means-tested loan and fall under the income threshold, you should qualify automatically. The main things that rule people out are your subject (Nursing and Product Design Engineering) and household income above the limit.
