Undergraduate Home Excellence Scholarship

You receive £1,000 per year (about 1,150 EUR) towards your bachelor's degree at Lancaster University. It is paid for up to three years, one £1,000 instalment each year, for a total of £3,000 (about 3,450 EUR). Lancaster University awards it automatically to top-scoring students who make Lancaster their first-choice university. You can combine it with the Lancaster Bursary (for households earning under £35,000 a year) and with named departmental scholarships.

Who can apply

• Grades: You achieve A*AA or better in your A levels, or the equivalent in another qualification, plus at least five GCSEs graded A/7 or above. You must hit these grades exactly. A near miss does not count.
• Law exception: For the LLB Law (Graduate Entry, course M105/2027), you instead need a 2:1 or better in your first degree.
• First choice: You make Lancaster University your firm UCAS choice, meaning your confirmed first pick.
• Fee status: You are a full-time Home fee-paying student.
• Study year: You are starting year 1 of the degree. Entry into a later year does not qualify.
• On campus: You study in person at Lancaster's Bailrigg campus. You get no funding during study abroad, placement years or years in industry.

How to apply

There is no separate application. You are considered automatically through your university application, and eligible students are picked out from it. The award applies to entry in 2027 and cannot be deferred to a later year.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition for a few slots. Everyone who meets the criteria is offered the scholarship, so the real hurdle is the grade bar. If you land A*AA or better with five strong GCSEs and put Lancaster as your firm choice, the money is essentially guaranteed. Since the grades must be met exactly, make sure your results clear the line rather than sitting just below it.
