About this scholarship
Holbeck Scholarship
In your first year of study, you will receive a one-off payment of about 2,030 EUR (GBP 1,750). This is a one-off payment and you can spend it on anything you need for your studies: books, equipment, rent or living costs. The money comes from the Holbeck Charitable Trust, a York-based charity which, in partnership with the University of York, administers the grant for school leavers and university graduates from the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Who can apply
- Where you go to school: You are attending a school or university in the Yorkshire and Humber region of England.
- Where you will study: You are applying via UCAS for your first undergraduate degree, which starts next September. This can be at any UK university, not just in York.
- Residence: You are a permanent resident of the United Kingdom and are considered a ‘domestic’ student for the purposes of tuition fees.
- Field of study: Any topic is fine.
- Grades: Your projected results are at least equivalent to a grade of ABB at A-level or an equivalent qualification.
- Commitment: You are determined to start and complete a degree.
- At least two of these apply to you: Your household income is below approximately 42,875 GBP (or you receive a hardship grant at school); you would be the first in your family to go to university; or you have overcome a significant challenge, such as a stay in, or leaving, a care home, a disability, a long-term illness, or your status as a refugee or asylum seeker.
How to apply
You apply online and attach a personal statement of no more than 500 words. You will also need a letter of recommendation from a teacher confirming your expected grades. The application deadline for pupils is 9 June.
