About this scholarship
What the Christopher Frederick Edwards Bursary gives you
In November of your first year of study in dentistry at the University of Bristol, you will receive a one-off payment of about 870 EUR (£750). This payment is made only once, during your first year of study. You will retain the amount even if you have to repeat the year. You can also combine it with other scholarships offered by the University of Bristol. The money comes from donations made by alumni and friends of the University, and only two new students receive this award each year.
Who can apply
- Course: You have been offered a place on one of two dentistry programmes at Bristol: the 5-year BDS programme in Dentistry (code A206) or the 6-year ‘Gateway to Dentistry’ BDS programme (code A208).
- Study phase: You are in your first year of study and are undertaking your first degree. You have not yet completed a degree.
- Status: You are a ‘Home (UK)’ student. This means that you are a British national or are resident in the United Kingdom.
- Enrolment: You are a full-time student. Part-time students are not eligible to apply.
- Financial need: Your household income is 25,000 GBP or less.
- Government support: You are eligible for student finance from the UK Government (loans to cover tuition fees and living costs) and have already applied for it.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via the University of Bristol’s ‘Additional Funding’ online form. This single form allows you to apply for several scholarships and grants at the same time. The application deadline is 10 May 2026 at 23:59; late applications will not be considered. You will find out whether you have been selected in early June 2026.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is awarded to very few students. Only two students from the two dentistry programmes in Bristol receive it, and you must also be a UK student with a household income of 25,000 GBP or less. This keeps the number of eligible applicants small, so your chances are good if you clearly meet these criteria. Apply well in advance of the May deadline and ensure that you have already submitted your application for state student finance.
