University College London - UCL Australia Scholarships

Benefit

University College London (UCL) will cover part of your tuition fees for a postgraduate course in London. As UCL does not publish the exact percentage, you should regard this as a contribution towards your tuition fees rather than a full scholarship. This funding is provided as part of a partnership between UCL and the Aurora Education Foundation, an Australian educational organisation for Indigenous peoples, which selects the students. If Aurora selects you and you are also offered a place at UCL, the contribution towards your tuition fees will be awarded automatically. As an Aurora student at UCL, you can also apply for the separate Roberta Sykes Scholarship, which contributes a total of up to approximately 45,000 euros (75,000 AUD) towards your living and study costs.

Eligibility

• Background: You are a descendant of Aboriginal Australians and/or Torres Strait Islanders, identify as such, and are accepted as such by your community.
• Proof of identity: You can obtain written confirmation of your identity as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander from a registered Indigenous organisation or a local councillor.
• Where you study: You are applying for a postgraduate programme (a Master’s with lectures, a research-based Master’s or a PhD) at UCL in London.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Admission: You have applied for a place at UCL or have received an offer of admission.

How to apply

You do not apply for this scholarship through UCL. Please apply to the Aurora Education Foundation via their online scholarship platform. At the same time, please apply directly to UCL for a place on a degree programme. The application deadline is 31 October.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. It is aimed exclusively at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have been successful in the Aurora selection process and have also secured a place at UCL; the target group is therefore small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide proof of your identity, your chances are good. It is crucial that you submit your application for admission to UCL and your Aurora application well in advance, and that you provide compelling references.
