About this scholarship
Music Scholarship at Aberystwyth University
You will receive about EUR 760 per year (£650) for the entire duration of your studies. You will also receive free membership of all the university’s orchestras, bands, choirs and other ensembles, as well as free access to rehearsal rooms, the music library and associated facilities. The money is paid out in instalments via the university’s “Aber Aspire” platform. Aberystwyth University in Wales awards 4 of these scholarships every year to keep its music scene alive, even though it no longer offers music degree programmes.
Who can apply
- Field of study: Any subject. You’re not studying music, but simply taking part in the university’s musical life alongside your studies.
- Musical skill: You are an experienced instrumentalist or singer who can perform in orchestras, bands, choirs and ensembles.
- Level: You are a new full-time student on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme and are taking 120 credit points per year.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, whether from the UK or abroad.
- Course length: Bachelor’s degree programmes must last at least 3 years. You cannot apply if you are transferring directly to the 2 or 3 academic year.
- Where you study: You are studying at the Aberystwyth campus and not at a partner university.
How to apply
Please submit the online application form by 30 June of your intake year. Late applications will not be considered. If you are invited, you will sit an audition at a time convenient to both parties, after which a panel will decide who is offered a place.
How realistic are your chances?
Only 4 scholarships are awarded each year, and selection is based on an audition – so it is your musical ability that counts, not your academic grades or your field of study. As the scholarship is aimed exclusively at talented musicians who wish to study at a specific university, the pool of applicants is smaller than for an open financial scholarship. If you are a self-assured artist who can make a clear contribution to the ensembles, your prospects are good. Make sure you apply well in advance of the June deadline.
