Anna Boyd Scholarship

During your first year of study at Bangor University in Wales, you will receive a one-off payment of about 350 EUR (£300), which is paid out at the end of November. This is a fixed lump sum and not a monthly grant. The scholarship was established in 1938 under the will of Anna Frances Elizabeth Boyd of Cheltenham and is one of the induction scholarships offered by Bangor University to new students.

Who can apply

• School: You are a former pupil of Ysgol Eifionydd in Porthmadog, Wales. Applicants from Cricieth will be given preference, but this is an advantage rather than a requirement.
• Where you study: You are applying for a Bachelor’s degree programme (with or without a foundation year) at Bangor University and are listing Bangor as your first choice on UCAS.
• Residence: You live in the UK or have residence status in the UK for fee purposes.
• Level: You have studied up to level 3, for example, the Abitur.
• Field of study: Almost any subject is an option. You’ll sit the entrance exam in a subject of your choice, ranging from biology and law to music and Welsh.

How to apply

Please complete the application form for the admission scholarships by 30 January. In February, you will then sit a written examination in your chosen subject at your own school or university. You will receive the results by email in March.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. It is awarded to former pupils of a specific school in Porthmadog, with preference given to applicants from Cricieth, meaning that very few people are eligible to apply. If you meet these criteria, come to Bangor and perform well in the entrance examination, your chances are good. Please note that the scholarship is not awarded every year and the university may withhold it if no candidate is deemed good enough.
