What you get

If you are studying full-time, you will receive a cash payment of about 585 EUR (£500) per year. This will be paid out each academic year, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The amount will be paid in two equal instalments in January and May. If you are studying part-time (30 to 90 credits per year), you will receive a lower amount, which is based on your credit load. The scholarship is awarded by the University of Brighton and is aimed at students from low-income households. If you are studying a full-time Bachelor’s degree, meet the eligibility criteria for this scholarship and list Brighton as your first choice, you may be eligible for additional support in your first year through the university’s ‘Brighton Boost’ package towards accommodation in student halls of residence or travel costs.

Who can apply

• University: You will be starting your degree at the University of Brighton in the academic year 2026–27.
• Level: You are starting a bachelor’s degree, an unpaid PGCE teacher training course or a postgraduate programme in health sciences to prepare for registration as a healthcare professional.
• Field of study: Each subject, provided that the degree programme is eligible for funding from Student Finance England.
• Where you live: You normally live in England and have lived in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for 3 consecutive years prior to the start of your course.
• Status: You are a British national, an Irish citizen or have ‘settled status’.
• Household income: Your household income is 25,000 GBP (approximately 29,000 EUR) per year or less.
• Student finance: You are eligible for the full Student Finance England loan package for undergraduate students, including the maximum living costs loan.
• Not already covered: You are not eligible for the grant for former care home residents or for students with disrupted family ties in Brighton. Other grants or funding in Brighton may also exclude you.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. Apply for the full loan package through Student Finance England as soon as the application period opens (usually in spring 2026), and agree to your details being passed on to the University of Brighton. The university will then check whether you meet the eligibility criteria and will usually let you know by email by the end of November whether you will receive the grant this year.

How realistic are your chances?

You mustn’t let other applicants take this opportunity away from you. If you meet the income and residence requirements and are eligible for the full funding package from Student Finance England, you will receive the grant automatically. The biggest hurdle is the household income cap of 25,000 GBP per year, meaning that the funding is aimed at students from low-income households. Apply for your student finance well in advance and consent to your details being shared – then the payment will be made.
