What the University of Chester Bursary gives you

At the University of Chester in the UK, you will receive a grant of at least about 1,725 EUR (£1,500) per academic year, which you will never have to repay. Depending on which of the four grants you qualify for, additional benefits may be available: a fee waiver of around 1,150 EUR (£1,000) as well as support with accommodation, for example 50% towards the cost of student halls of residence or around 2,875 EUR (£2,500) as a contribution towards the rent for alternative accommodation. The money is paid out in three instalments spread throughout the year. You can receive this support again in subsequent academic years, provided you continue to meet the criteria.

Who can apply

You must meet the general eligibility criteria set out below, as well as the requirements for one of the four groups. You may only receive one scholarship.

• Degree level: You are a full-time undergraduate student, including those on foundation programmes and preparatory years, at levels 3 to 6.
• Where you study: You’re studying at the University of Chester in the UK.
• Tuition fees: You will pay tuition fees of at least around 7,500 EUR (£6,525) for 2026/27, or around 4,410 EUR (£3,835) for certain preparatory courses.
• Residence: You are a British student living in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Students from the EU and other international students are not eligible to apply.
• Field of study: All compartments are open.
• Your situation (pick one group): You have care experience (at least 3 months in care before the age of 18 and were under 25 at the time you started your studies); or you live apart from your family (classified as independent by Student Finance, under 25); or you are caring for a sick, elderly or disabled family member and your household income is approximately 46,000 EUR (£40,000) or less; or you identify as a member of the Sinti, Roma, Traveller, fairground worker or boat-dweller communities.
• Who cannot apply: Students whose tuition fees are covered by their employer (as part of funding or training programmes), postgraduate students, and most students at partner universities.

How to apply

Please send the application form and your supporting documents to the university by 31 January each year. For the scholarship for students in situations of alienation, the assessment of your application for student finance must begin by 31 January and be completed by 30 May. You must reapply each academic year and provide fresh evidence of your circumstances.

How realistic are your chances?

Each scholarship is aimed at a narrowly defined target group, meaning that only a small number of people are eligible – you either belong to this group or you do not. If you meet the criteria for a particular group and submit the required supporting documents in good time, your chances are good. Places are limited, and meeting the criteria does not guarantee approval; you should therefore apply as early as possible.
