About this scholarship
John Robertson Sports Scholarship
You will receive about 3,450 EUR (£3,000) for one year if you are in your first year of study at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and have demonstrated outstanding sporting achievements. The amount will be paid in two equal instalments. You will receive the first instalment at the end of November. You will receive the second instalment at the beginning of February, provided your academic performance is satisfactory. In addition to the grant, you will receive a free annual membership of the Aberdeen Sports Village, as well as advice and training from the university’s ‘Sports & Exercise Team’, including seminars and strength and conditioning training.
Who can apply
- Study level: You are in your first year of a Bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Aberdeen.
- Enrolment: You study full time.
- Field of study: Any bachelor’s degree subject.
- Fee status: You pay tuition fees for home students (UK).
- Sport: You compete at a high level and are able to demonstrate strong performances and great commitment in your sport – whatever the discipline.
How to apply
Applications are made via the University of Aberdeen’s sports scholarship scheme. You may apply for this scholarship and the ‘Development Trust Sports Bursary’ at the same time; however, you cannot receive both scholarships simultaneously. Receiving this scholarship means you are ineligible for the ‘Development Trust Sports Bursary’.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a single, highly endowed university scholarship intended exclusively for first-year students who are already competing at a high level. The pool of applicants is small, but the requirements are high. If you can demonstrate clear, proven success in your sport and meet the conditions regarding tuition fees for domestic students and the first year of study, you are exactly the right person for this grant. The current funding period runs from 2023 to 2026. Please therefore ensure that a new application round is open before you apply.
