About this scholarship
Charles Wallace Burma Trust academic grant
You will receive a one-off grant of up to about 104 EUR to cover the costs of a postgraduate course that you are already undertaking in the UK. The funding comes from the Charles Wallace Burma Trust, a British charity established in 1981 to enable people from Burma/Myanmar to study in the United Kingdom. This is a grant, not a full scholarship. It will help ease the strain on your tight budget whilst you complete the course you have already started.
Who can apply
- Where you are from: You are a national of Burma/Myanmar.
- Level: You are a postgraduate student, for example on a Master’s programme or studying for a PhD.
- Where you study: You are already enrolled at a UK higher education institution. You cannot apply until you have started your studies in the UK.
- Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
- Financial need: You really need the money urgently. The decision on whether to award the grant is based on both your results and your need, so you’ll need to provide evidence of both.
How to apply
Please complete the Foundation’s application form and email it to the secretary. Please enclose a short letter of recommendation from one of your academic supervisors in the UK, written on letterhead, as well as a CV of no more than two pages.
How realistic are your chances?
The target group is small. You must be from Burma/Myanmar, already be undertaking postgraduate study in the UK, and demonstrate both academic merit and a genuine financial need. If you clearly meet the criteria and your supervisor supports you with a strong letter of recommendation, your prospects are quite good. Bear in mind, however, that the amount is modest and is intended to supplement, rather than replace, other sources of funding.
