University of the Arts London - The Cordwainers MA Scholarship

Benefit

You will receive £10,000 (about 11,500 EUR) as a grant towards your tuition fees for the ‘Footwear’ Master’s programme at the London College of Fashion, which is part of the University of the Arts London. The amount will be paid directly into the college’s fees account, not to you, and will therefore immediately reduce your outstanding balance. One scholarship is awarded each year. It is provided by the ‘Worshipful Company of Cordwainers’, a City of London guild affiliated with the College, which has been promoting training in the shoemaking trade and the fashion industry for centuries.

Who can apply

• Course: You have been offered a place on the full-time Master’s programme in ‘Footwear’ at the London College of Fashion, which starts in September.
• Nationality: Anyone can apply, regardless of whether you pay domestic or international student fees.
• Money you need: It’s not easy to pay the fees out of your own pocket.
• Grades and potential: You have an excellent academic record and would clearly benefit from postgraduate study.

How to apply

Applications are made via an online form, which can be accessed via the link to scholarships on the UAL website. A panel comprising the heads of the Master’s programmes and the head of the Craft programme reviews the applications and selects the winner on the basis of academic performance and financial need.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very restricted: only students who have already been admitted to a specific Master’s programme may apply for a single scholarship, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you have a place on the ‘Footwear’ Master’s programme and can demonstrate both good academic performance and a genuine financial need, your chances are good. A clear, well-reasoned explanation of why you require financial support is just as important as your grades.
