About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive a one-off cash grant of approximately 1,150 EUR (1,000 GBP) for one academic year at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom. This will be paid in two instalments: half in November and the other half the following February. The funding comes from a donation of 3 million GBP from Dr Naim Dangoor OBE and is intended to help British students from low-income families gain access to degree programmes in the natural sciences and engineering. Cardiff University awarded around 50 of these grants in its natural sciences and engineering departments, including 5 in the subject of mathematics.

Eligibility

  • Level: You are starting your first bachelor’s degree at Cardiff University.
  • Where you study: You’re studying at Cardiff University in the UK, and Cardiff is your undisputed first choice.
  • Nationality: Under the rules governing student finance, you are regarded as a British student.
  • Field of study: You hold a degree in one of the following disciplines: archaeology, life sciences, chemistry, computer science, earth sciences, engineering, mathematics or physics.
  • Financial need: Your household income is less than 50,020 GBP, as confirmed by a means test (an income test). This means you are also eligible for a scholarship from Cardiff University.
  • Grades: You have achieved top grades in your subject area, based on your three best A-level grades or the Welsh Baccalaureate. The subjects ‘General Studies’ and ‘Critical Thinking’ are not taken into account.
  • Other awards: You are not currently receiving any other scholarship from Cardiff University.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. You will automatically be considered if you accept your offer of a place at Cardiff by 31 July, complete the means test with your relevant authority, and agree to share the results of the means test with the University. Admissions officers select students with the highest entry grades. Successful applicants will be notified in writing in September.
