The Jane Rapley Scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of approximately 5,750 EUR (5,000 GBP) towards course materials and living costs, which will be paid out in instalments throughout the year. Two scholarships will be awarded. The funding comes from Central Saint Martins (CSM), which is part of the University of the Arts London, and is financed by donations from alumni, staff and friends. The scholarship is named after Jane Rapley, the college’s former director.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at Central Saint Martins (CSM), part of the University of the Arts London.
• Degree: You are enrolled as a full-time student on a Master’s programme: an MA, an MRes (Master of Research) or an MArch (Master of Architecture).
• Study stage: You are undertaking a one-year postgraduate programme or are in the final year of a two-year postgraduate programme.
• Field of study: Any subject at CSM that covers the fields of art, design and theatre.
• Nationality: Both UK (domestic) and international students are eligible to apply.
• Financial need: Your annual household income is 100,000 GBP or less, and you can prove that you need the money.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record and demonstrate clear potential in your field.

How to apply

You cannot apply directly. First, your course tutor must nominate you. Only then will the Student Finance Team invite you to complete an online application. For the 2026/27 round, nominations must be submitted by 31. July 2026, and nominated students must apply by 16 August 2026. A panel will then assess the applicants, first on the basis of financial need and subsequently on the basis of academic and creative achievements.

How realistic are your chances?

As there are only two scholarships available and applications are based solely on nomination, competition is fierce. You must first be selected by your programme director before you can even apply. If a tutor nominates you and you clearly meet the income threshold and academic requirements, your chances are good, as the pool of applicants is still small at that stage. Building a good relationship with your tutors is just as important as the application itself.
