Benefit

You receive a non-repayable bursary of £200 to £1,500 per year (about 230 to 1,730 EUR) from Manchester Metropolitan University. Non-repayable means the money is a gift, not a loan. The exact amount depends on which support groups you fall into and the living costs you list on your form. Most students get an amount at the lower end. Only students in several priority groups are considered for the full £1,500. If you are a care leaver, estranged from your family, or a carer, you get at least £1,000 per year (about 1,150 EUR). Awards of £500 or less are paid in one go; larger amounts come in two instalments. You can apply again each year of your course, but the same amount is not guaranteed in later years.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are an undergraduate at Manchester Met, paying the UK ("home") tuition fee rate rather than international fees.
• Course start: Your course started after 1 August 2025. If you started earlier, the university's separate Student Support Package may apply instead.
• Household income: Your household income is £42,875 or less, confirmed by Student Finance.
• Student support number: You have a UK student support number (for students from England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland).
• Financial need: You can show you need financial help. The university checks this when you apply.
• One key group: You also fall into at least one of these: household income of £25,000 or less; care leaver; care-experienced; estranged from your family; a carer; disabled, including mental health conditions; a lone parent with children under 18; refugee or humanitarian protection status; from one of the 20% most deprived postcode areas in England; or a service child with a parent in the military.

How to apply

First complete your enrolment and apply to be means-tested by Student Finance. Then apply online through the university's Digital Student Hub. For the 2026/27 year, the form is open from 7 September 2026 to 30 April 2027. Late applications are not accepted. The university assesses applications in batches, and you get a decision by email within a few weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

This fund is open only to Manchester Met undergraduates on home fees who have a low household income and belong to a specific support group. That keeps the pool limited to students who clearly meet these conditions. If you fit one of the key groups and can document your income and need, your prospects are good. Awards can be scaled down if many eligible applications come in, so applying early in the window is sensible.
