The Meehan Family Scholarship

You will receive £1,000 per year (about 1,150 EUR) for the entire duration of your Bachelor’s degree at Ulster University in Northern Ireland. Ulster graduate Marty Meehan and his wife Mary Ellen established this award. Both are from County Fermanagh and wish to help students from their home region to study engineering, computer science and environmental sciences.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You have been offered a place on a Bachelor’s degree programme at Ulster University at any of its campuses.
• Study phase: You are a first-year student.
• Field of study: You choose a degree programme from a list of science and engineering courses, including environmental sciences, biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics, renewable energy and clean technologies.
• Where you live: You live in County Fermanagh or went to school there.
• Financial need: Your household income is £19,203 (approximately 22,000 EUR) or less per year.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Ulster University Scholarships Office. The application deadline is 5 September.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are very narrow: you must be from County Fermanagh, be studying one of the few listed degree programmes, and have a low household income. As a result, the target group is small and competition is limited. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of being within the income limit, your chances are good.
