National Scholarship Programme (NSP) at Goldsmiths

This programme has ended. The UK government ceased funding the NSP from 2015, meaning that this programme is no longer available. Goldsmiths now awards its own scholarships and grants instead.

Under the programme, first-year students from low-income households received a one-off grant of at least 3,500 EUR (3,000 GBP) in their first year. The grant was not always provided in the form of cash. Universities were able to provide it in the form of a waiver of tuition fees or a discount, cheaper accommodation, a free foundation year or a cash grant of up to approximately 1,150 EUR (1,000 GBP). This was a UK Government programme jointly funded by the state and the individual universities. Goldsmiths was one of the English universities taking part.

Who could apply

• Study level: You were in the first year of your bachelor’s degree.
• Where you studied: A publicly funded English university, such as Goldsmiths, University of London.
• Financial need: Your household income was less than approximately 29,000 EUR (25,000 GBP) per year, which meant you were entitled to the full amount of the maintenance allowance.
• Field of study: All participants met the eligibility criteria.
• Extra rules: Each university set its own additional criteria, meaning that meeting the income threshold alone was no guarantee of receiving funding.
