Palgrave Brown Scholarship

During your Bachelor’s degree at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, you will receive EUR 1000 per year towards your living costs. The scholarship covers the entire duration of your studies, i.e. either 3 or 4 years. If you are undertaking a six-year medical degree, it will only cover the first four years. It is funded by the Palgrave Brown Bursary Fund and is aimed at students from Eastern Europe and Central Asia who are unable to fully afford to study at Oxford on their own.

Who can apply

• Where you are from: You normally live in one of the following countries or completed your education there: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine or Uzbekistan.
• Level of study: You’ve just started your bachelor’s degree at Oxford and haven’t even got halfway through it yet.
• Field of study: Any subject and any Oxford college is an option.
• Financial need: You need financial support to be able to afford to study at Oxford. This is the decisive factor. Priority is given to students for whom this support will make the biggest difference.
• Grades: Your academic performance also plays a part.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the University of Oxford’s admissions system for Bachelor’s degree programmes by 4 February. Selection takes place in April, and you will be notified of the result by the end of May. If you have been offered a place with a deferred start date, please apply in January of the year in which you actually start your degree.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded per round, and Oxford points out that competition is very fierce. It is therefore very difficult to secure this scholarship. Although the pool of applicants is limited to students from certain countries who also have a demonstrable financial need, the bar is still set high as there is only one place available. You’ll have the best chance of success if, in addition to good grades, you can provide convincing, well-documented evidence of a genuine financial need.
