Swansea University Sport Scholarship

What you get

You receive a personalised support package worth up to £2,000 per academic year (about 2,300 EUR), plus practical help for combining study with elite-level sport. The package is built for your situation. It can include free access to the university gyms and swimming pool, free parking on both campuses, one-to-one strength and conditioning training, sports injury rehabilitation, sports psychology, nutrition advice, fitness testing and performance analysis. You also get academic flexibility for training and assessments through the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), a UK-wide programme for student athletes. On top of that you get workshops on balancing sport with study and planning your career. Swansea University runs the award and offers up to 60 scholarships each year. The £2,000 is a maximum and can be less. The support comes as a package, not as cash.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You study at Swansea University, or you are applying there and already have a UCAS number (your application reference for UK university admissions).
• Sporting level: You compete in your sport at an advanced, elite level.
• Your sport: Any sport can apply. Priority goes to BUCS sports (those in the British Universities and Colleges Sport competitions), but other sports are not ruled out.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Field of study: Any subject can apply.
• Renewal: The award runs for one academic year. You must reapply each year, and holding it before does not guarantee it again.

How to apply

You apply through an online form. You describe your current sporting achievements and future goals and give two named references. Applications are reviewed on set dates through the year. For 2026-2027 these are 31 August 2026, 26 October 2026, 25 January 2027 and 22 March 2027. An independent panel decides. Places can run out before the final date, so apply early.

How realistic are your chances?

With up to 60 scholarships a year, this is not a single-winner award. But it is aimed only at students who genuinely compete at elite level, so the field is narrow and your sporting record decides it. If you can show high-level competition and strong references, your prospects are solid. Because applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and places can fill up, apply at the earliest review date you can.
