About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive up to 350 EUR per month for a short study or research stay abroad. This will last for a minimum of one month and a maximum of four months, meaning that a total of up to 1,400 EUR is available. This is a one-off grant from the Austrian federal state of Vorarlberg. It is intended to support you in spending time at a university, a research centre, a library, an archive, a museum, a hospital or in the research and development department of a company abroad, in order to study or conduct research there.

Who can apply

  • Student aid: You receive a study grant (Austrian state funding for students).
  • Study level: You are enrolled at a university or university of applied sciences and have completed at least your first year of study.
  • Where you go: Your stay will take place abroad, at a university, a university of applied sciences or a state-recognised research centre.
  • Nationality: You are a national of Austria, an EU country or an EEA country (which includes Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).
  • Home in Vorarlberg: At the time of applying, you must have had your main or secondary residence in Vorarlberg for at least three years without interruption.
  • Field of study: Anyone interested is very welcome.
  • Special case: If you are already studying full-time at a university abroad, your funded stay must take place in a country outside the EU/EEA.

How to apply

Please apply using the online form on the Vorarlberg Provincial Government’s website. There is no fixed deadline, but you must submit your application before the start of your stay.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very narrowly defined. You must be receiving state study grants and have lived in Vorarlberg continuously for at least three years, which means that the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you meet these criteria and apply before you leave, your chances are good. As the grant is aimed at a specific regional target group with clear rules, competition is far less intense than for open national scholarships.
