What the Aktion Österreich-Tschechien summer course scholarship gives you

You will receive a full scholarship for a four-week intensive Czech language course at a summer school in the Czech Republic. This covers all costs, so you will not incur any expenses: the course fee, your accommodation and meals, as well as all cultural events included in the programme. You will take part in a summer school for Slavic studies, held at Czech universities such as Prague, Brno, České Budějovice or Plzeň. Lessons range from beginner to advanced level and are complemented by a cultural and leisure programme. The scholarship is jointly funded by the Austrian and Czech Ministries of Science. Around 20 places are awarded each year.

Who can apply

• Who: Students, lecturers and researchers are welcome to apply.
• Where you study or work: You are enrolled at or employed by an Austrian higher education institution: a state university, a university of applied sciences, a university of teacher education or a recognised private university.
• Nationality: You hold a passport issued by an EU country.
• Field of study: All participants are eligible to take part.
• Czech knowledge: No prior knowledge is required. Even complete beginners can apply, as the courses are designed for beginners.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the scholarships.at (grants.at) portal by 15 March each year. You must submit two letters of recommendation from teachers at your Austrian educational institution, as well as evidence of your academic achievements. There is no interview: selection is based on your written application. The results will be announced within eight weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

The entry requirements are quite strict. You must be studying or working at an Austrian university and hold an EU passport, which means the pool of applicants remains small. With around 20 places available each year and no language requirements, well-suited applicants have good prospects. Good academic results and strong references will help you stand out from the crowd. You should therefore submit your complete application by the deadline in March.
