Hans und Blanca Moser promotion award

For an outstanding scientific publication in the field of cancer or cardiovascular research, you will receive a one-off prize of 3,000 EUR. The foundation is based at the Medical University of Vienna. It awards two prizes each year: one for cancer research (in collaboration with the Austrian Society for Haematology and Medical Oncology, OeGHO) and one for cardiovascular research (in collaboration with the Austrian Society for Cardiology, ÖKG). The winning research projects are honoured at the annual conference of the respective partner society.

Who can apply

• Your role: You are the lead author of a scientific paper that has undergone a peer-review process. ‘Peer review’ means that other experts have examined the paper prior to publication.
• Field: Your work focuses on cancer research or cardiovascular research.
• When published: Your paper was published or accepted for publication in a recognised specialist journal in the year prior to the call for papers.
• Degree: You hold an Austrian doctorate in medicine (Dr. med. univ.) or can provide evidence that you are currently undertaking the relevant training.
• Age: You are 35 or younger.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• One prize only: If you win another prize from the same partner organisation in the same year, you will not be eligible to receive that prize as well.

How to apply

Please send a copy of your publication and your CV to the Foundation’s office by 31 December. Entries will be assessed by experts in the field, and the Foundation’s board will decide on the award of the prizes.

How realistic are your chances?

As this is a single award in two narrowly defined specialist fields, it is awarded to the best piece of work rather than to all those who meet the criteria. The pool of candidates is small: young doctors under the age of 35 who have authored a peer-reviewed study as first author in the field of cancer or cardiovascular research. This ensures a tough but focused competition. If you have published a compelling paper as first author in a prestigious journal and meet the criteria, it is definitely worth submitting it.
