About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a one-off payment of between 750 and 1,500 EUR for one academic year in recognition of your outstanding academic achievement. In practice, most students receive the minimum amount of 750 euros; a higher amount is possible for particularly good academic performance, provided the budget allows. The University of Klagenfurt (formerly the Alpen-Adria University of Klagenfurt) awards this grant once a year in accordance with the Austrian Student Finance Act. Your academic performance during the period from 1 October to 30 September will be taken into account.

Who can apply

  • University: You are a regular student at the University of Klagenfurt. Teacher-training students in the Südost network must be primarily enrolled there.
  • Level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Grades (bachelor/master): During this one-year period, you have earned at least 40 ECTS credits with marks ranging from 1 to 4, with your overall average being at least 1.5. A Master’s thesis will be credited if it has been awarded a grade of ‘Very Good’.
  • Grades (doctorate): Your dissertation finished in that year was graded "Sehr gut" (very good).
  • Nationality: You are an Austrian, EEA or Swiss national, or a third-country national with equivalent status (e.g. holding a permanent residence permit in Austria after at least five years, or as a family member of an EU citizen working there). Recognised refugees and stateless persons meet the requirements under the same conditions.
  • Enrolment type: Students with dual enrolment (co-enrolled students, i.e. students who are primarily enrolled at another higher education institution) are not eligible to apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the student portal under ‘My Applications’. Paper applications will not be accepted. For the academic year 2025/2026, the application window runs from 1 to 31 October 2026. You will receive the result by email by mid-January 2027 at the latest.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed exclusively at students who are already enrolled at the University of Klagenfurt and who meet a high academic standard: an average of 1.5 for at least 40 ECTS credits. As a result, the group of those eligible for funding is small. Applicants are then ranked according to their grade point average and the credits they have earned, within the limits of a set budget; however, no place is guaranteed. If your results significantly exceed the threshold, your chances are good; however, only a particularly strong academic year – and not merely meeting the minimum requirements – will secure you a place.
