About this scholarship

Merit Scholarship Grant at TU Wien

In recognition of your outstanding academic achievements over the past year, you will receive a one-off payment of 750 EUR. The Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) awards this payment under the Austrian Student Finance Act. Applications are made on an academic year basis, meaning you can receive this grant again in subsequent years, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria.

Who can apply

  • University: You are currently enrolled on a standard degree programme at TU Wien (Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD). Graduates who have recently completed their degree may apply for their final year of study.
  • Field of study: Open to all degree programmes across all faculties.
  • Grades: You achieved at least a specified weighted average mark in the previous academic year. The exact minimum requirement is set out in the relevant call for applications.
  • Study duration: You have not exceeded the officially permitted duration of study for your degree programme. A recognised reason for a delay may be taken into account.
  • Nationality: You are an Austrian national, a national of an EEA country, or a non-EU national with a right of long-term residence who has been living in Austria for at least 5 years. Stateless persons may also be eligible under certain conditions.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted to your faculty’s secretariat by 15 October each year. The Dean decides on the award. Applicants from the Department of Computer Science will receive a response around mid-December.

How realistic are your chances?

The number of scholarships is limited each year, so there is fierce competition amongst high-achieving students at TU Wien. The selection process takes into account the ECTS credits earned, the grade point average and the duration of study. The decisive factor is a high level of well-documented academic achievement in the qualifying year. If your grades significantly exceed the minimum requirements for that year, it is worth applying.
