About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a cash grant of up to 100 EUR per month for a study or work placement abroad. In addition, there is a flat-rate travel allowance of up to 240 EUR for destinations in Europe or up to 480 EUR for countries outside Europe. In total, you can receive a maximum of 1,480 EUR. The stay must last at least 10 days and may last up to 10 months. The funding is provided by the Upper Austrian Provincial Government (Provincial Office for Economy and Research). Funding is available for stays such as exchange programmes (Erasmus+, Joint Study), work placements, research for your final thesis, postgraduate courses or summer schools. Language courses are not eligible for funding, and the stay must take place in a country where German is not the main language.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are studying at a higher education institution in Upper Austria, such as JKU Linz, the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria or one of the universities of education, or you have graduated from one of these institutions.
- Study status: You are enrolled on a degree programme or have obtained a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Diplom degree within the last year, and are not enrolled at any other higher education institution.
- Residence: At the time of application, your main residence must have been in Upper Austria for at least one year without interruption.
- Progress: You must have completed at least two semesters before the start of your stay or, in the case of a compulsory work placement, at least one semester.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Own contribution: You will bear at least 10% of the total costs yourself, after all grants (including this one) have been taken into account.
How to apply
You must submit your application via the International Office at your Upper Austrian higher education institution before the start of your stay. Your application must be accompanied by a letter of confirmation from the host institution abroad. The International Office reviews the applications and forwards the recommended ones to the provincial authorities several times a year. There is no legal entitlement to funding.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is strictly limited to the region. You must have been living in Upper Austria for at least one year and be studying at one of the universities there, meaning that only students from the region are eligible. If you clearly meet these criteria, have a confirmed period of study abroad and apply before your departure, your chances are good. Please note that the amount is modest and is intended to supplement other funding; you must therefore first apply for other scholarships.
