About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive financial support to spend an additional year studying abroad, outside Belgium, usually on a Master’s degree or other postgraduate programme. There are two types. A District Scholarship provides a one-off payment of 2,000 EUR to 10,000 EUR for the year. The four Belgian and Luxembourg Rotary districts award several of these scholarships each year, which are funded by contributions from local Rotary clubs. A Global Grant Scholarship is significantly higher, amounting to 30,000 USD (about 28,000 EUR), and is provided by the Rotary Foundation itself. The duration can range from one to four years. You will study at a university or higher education institution in a country where Rotary is active.

Eligibility

  • Degree: You already hold at least one Master’s degree (or an equivalent qualification) or a vocational Bachelor’s degree, or you are due to complete your degree this academic year.
  • Where you go: You are studying abroad, outside Belgium.
  • Where you live: You live, reside or have studied in one of the four Belgian or Luxembourg Rotary districts. In District 2140, for example, you must have spent at least 5 years in that district and have a good command of Dutch.
  • Field of study (District Scholarship): Any topic is fine.
  • Field of study (Global Grant): Your degree must relate to one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus: peace, disease prevention, clean water and sanitation, maternal and child health, education, local economies or the environment.
  • Rotary role: You are ready to represent Rotary abroad and to support its ideals.

How to apply

First, contact a certified Rotary or Rotaract club in your own district. The club will nominate you and support your application. You should then submit the district’s official application form. A panel of Rotary members decides on district scholarships, whilst the Rotary Foundation decides on Global Grants. The application deadline is 28 February of the year before your academic year begins.
