About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a scholarship of one academic year studying abroad, which you can use to study for a PhD or a specialised Master’s degree at a university of your choice outside Belgium. There is no fixed amount: the sum varies from year to year, as it depends on the Foundation’s investment returns. The money is paid in two equal instalments, the first approximately one month before your departure and the second five months later. You may combine this scholarship with other funding, for example from your host university abroad or another foundation. The Université de Liège administers the scholarship and awards one scholarship per academic year. It cannot be renewed. The aim is to help young people from the Verviers region to broaden their horizons by studying abroad.
Eligibility
- School: You completed your secondary education at the Athénée Royal Thil Lorrain in Verviers, Belgium.
- University: You are studying at the Université de Liège or have graduated from there.
- Study level: One of the following statements applies to you: you have obtained a Master’s degree or a specialised Master’s degree within the last two years; or you are currently enrolled on such a degree programme; or you have been enrolled as a PhD student for no more than five years.
- Plan: You have a specific study plan for your period abroad, specifying a host university and a professor (at that university or in Liège) who is willing to supervise you.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- Still finishing your master's: You can apply, but your funding will only be confirmed once you have obtained your degree.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online using the form provided by the Université de Liège Foundation. You will need a personal statement, a CV listing your qualifications and any publications, your study plan for your period abroad, a statement of your financial requirements, a supervision agreement with a professor, and two letters of recommendation from other academic staff. The application deadline is in early October. A selection panel selects the winner, and the University Council confirms the selection.
