About this scholarship

Fifth of May Foundation grant

You get a one-off grant, normally between about 350 EUR and 2,700 EUR (4,000 SEK to 30,000 SEK), to study, train or do a study trip in Sweden. The amount depends on your plans and costs. The grant comes from the Femte-Maj-Fonden (Fifth of May Foundation) in Gothenburg. It supports young Danes who want to learn about Swedish culture, society and working life. It can pay for an education or study stay in Sweden, an internship that is part of your studies at upper secondary (gymnasium) or higher level, or an educational study trip tied to your course.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Danish national.
  • Level: You are in upper secondary school (gymnasium), higher education or vocational training.
  • Where you go: Your work takes place in Sweden.
  • Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
  • Purpose: A study trip must form part of a course and have a clear educational objective. A general holiday does not meet these requirements.
  • Timing: Your activity must not start before 5 May of the year you apply.

How to apply

There is no set application form. Please apply by email to Foreningen NORDEN, quoting the reference ‘Femte Maj Fonden’. Please state your name and contact details, explain what the grant is intended for, and attach a detailed breakdown of costs. The application deadline is 15 March each year. The board will make its decision shortly afterwards at its annual meeting.
