About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a tax-free grant for a study or research trip abroad. The foundation does not publish fixed amounts. The amount of the grant is determined on a project-by-project basis. The grant can cover your travel costs, accommodation, meals, minor everyday expenses and documented course fees. It is intended to fund smaller projects where the grant is crucial to whether the trip takes place at all; in other words, it tends to fill a gap rather than cover all costs. The funds come from the ‘Torben & Alice Frimodt Fund’, a Danish foundation that supports scientific, nature conservation and humanitarian work. The grant is tax-free only for the costs listed above, and you must provide evidence of these to the Danish tax authorities. If another grant also covers the same costs, you must repay the money received from Frimodt.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are a researcher, a PhD student with an approved scholarship, or a Master’s student. Master’s students will only receive funding if additional funds are available.
  • University link: Research funding is mainly awarded to applicants affiliated with a Danish university.
  • Where you live: You are based in Denmark. Applicants from anywhere in the country can apply.
  • Where you go: Your trip or stay is taking place abroad.
  • Field of study: Any subject.
  • Project size: Your project is small, and the foundation’s support will clearly determine whether it can be carried out.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation for Study and Exchange Visits’ portal. Applications sent by post will not be considered. There are two application deadlines each year: 15 April and 1 November. All applicants will normally receive a response regarding the acceptance or rejection of their application within one to two months of the deadline.
