Senate of Spain - Traineeships for Graduates in Library and Archival Sciences

What you get

You will receive 1,075 EUR gross per month for one year, paid in 12 monthly instalments. This is a paid work placement (work-based training) in the Documentation Department of the Spanish Senate (Senado de España). You will undertake practical tasks in the areas of archives, library and documentation relating to the Senate’s official activities. You will work 30 hours per week and will be covered by the general Spanish social security system. The placement runs from 1. January to 31 December 2026 and cannot be extended. There are 10 places available for the 2026th round. Two of these are reserved for applicants with a recognised disability of at least 33%.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a national of Spain or another EU country.
• Degree: You hold a university degree in Library and Information Science (Diplomatura in Biblioteconomía y Documentación or Grado en Información y Documentación). A Master’s degree in any subject area is also recognised, provided it comprised at least 200 teaching hours (or 8 ECTS) in subjects relating to archiving, librarianship or documentation.
• Age: You were born after 1 January 1998, so you are approximately 27 years old or younger on the reference date.
• Where you go: You will undertake the work placement on site at the Palacio del Senado in Madrid, Spain.
• No double funding: You must not be receiving any other scholarship, any wages or any unemployment benefit during the same period.
• Not a repeat: You have not yet completed this Senate work placement.

How to apply

Applications must be made online via the Senate’s website. You must submit the standard application form and a list of your achievements. The application deadline for round 2026 was 24 October. Selection is based on the documents submitted: a panel will assess your academic record, your specialist knowledge, your language skills and relevant professional experience. There will be no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria are very strict: only 10 places, an EU nationality requirement, a specific degree in library and archive studies, and an age limit of around 27. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet the requirements regarding your degree and age, and can demonstrate good grades, language skills and practical experience, your prospects are good, as the selection process is based solely on your score.
