About this scholarship

Research Introduction Grants (UPO Seville)

You will receive 180 EUR net per month for 5 months whilst gaining your first practical research experience at Pablo de Olavide University (UPO) in Seville. In return, you will work for approximately 5 hours per week alongside a PhD student on a real-world research or knowledge transfer project within one of the university’s departments. You will be registered with the Spanish social security system for the entire duration of the programme. Each year, the university funds 30 of these scholarships from its own research budget.

Who can apply

  • University: You must be enrolled at Pablo de Olavide University in Seville. Students from other universities are not eligible to apply.
  • Study progress: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree and have earned two-thirds of your core and compulsory credits. In the case of a combined dual degree programme, it is sufficient to have earned two-thirds of the credits in one of the two programmes.
  • First time: You have not previously received the same or a similar scholarship at UPO.
  • Supervisor: A PhD student at the UPO has agreed to supervise you. You must arrange this before you apply.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Disability: 3 of the 30 funding places are reserved for applicants with a recognised disability of 33% or more.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the university’s electronic portal (Sede Electrónica). The application deadline is 15 working days after the vacancy is published on the UPO’s official electronic noticeboard. Selection is based primarily on your weighted average mark. In the event of a tie between two applicants, the quality of your supervisor’s work plan will be the deciding factor.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is strictly limited. Only UPO students who have earned two-thirds of their credit points and found a suitable supervisor are eligible to apply, meaning the pool of applicants is small. With 30 places available and at least one scholarship guaranteed per department, your prospects are good if you are well-suited to the degree programme and can demonstrate excellent grades. Securing a supervisor early on and achieving solid results are the two decisive factors.
