About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive full coverage of your doctoral supervision fee. This is the annual fee for ‘tutela academica’ that you must pay in order to remain enrolled on your PhD programme. In addition, you will receive up to 200 EUR to cover the costs of writing your thesis. The funding is available for a period of maximum of 2 years. To continue receiving it in the second year, you must demonstrate to the selection committee that you have made genuine progress with your PhD. The University of Zaragoza runs the programme with funding from the Regional Government of Aragon.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are a PhD student and are enrolled in your 2025–2026 academic year under the ‘tutela academica de doctorado’ programme at the University of Zaragoza.
  • Grades: You completed the degree programme that qualified you for a PhD with a grade point average of at least 7 out of 10.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, whether from the EU or from non-EU countries. If you hold a qualification obtained abroad, you must have it certified and, where necessary, translated into Spanish.
  • Financial need: Your household income must not exceed certain thresholds. These range from 8,843 EUR for a single-person household to 36,255 EUR for a household of eight people. Your household assets must also not exceed the limits set by the Federal Ministry.
  • Other funding: You are not currently receiving any other public or private funding for the same purpose.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the University of Zaragoza’s electronic portal (sede.unizar.es) using your personal login details. For the 2025-2026 round, the application deadline is 8 October 2025. Provisional decisions will be made in December, and the final results will be announced in early February 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very restrictive. You must already be a PhD student at a specific university, have achieved a minimum grade of 7 in 10, and meet strict income limits. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants remains small. If you clearly meet the income and grade requirements and can provide evidence of this, your chances are good, even if the financial support is rather modest.
