University of León - Grants for Students Undergoing Social Hardship and Scarcity of Resources

What you get

You will receive up to 1,500 EUR to cover the official tuition fees for your Bachelor’s (Grado) or Master’s degree programme at the University of León. This amount covers the credits you are taking for the first or second time during the academic year. Any tuition fee reductions or exemptions already granted will be deducted from the maximum limit of 1,500 EUR. You may claim the grant for a maximum of two academic years in total during your studies. In proven exceptional cases, the committee may increase the grant to cover your full tuition fees and even help you with the cost of accommodation and meals in student halls of residence. The scholarship is funded jointly by the University of León and the Fundación Cepa González Díez, with a total budget of 50,000 EUR available for the 2026/27 round.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled on an official Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at the University of León (either at one of its faculties or at one of its affiliated centres).
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: You are a Spanish national or a national of another EU country. EU citizens (or their family members) must be permanently resident in Spain or provide evidence that they are working there.
• No existing degree: You do not yet hold a qualification at the same level or a higher level than the one you are applying for, nor do you meet the entry requirements for such a qualification.
• Financial need: Your family income stays under set limits, for example about 14,818 EUR for a one-person household or 40,773 EUR for a family of four. You are not eligible if the family has bank savings over 12,000 EUR or owns a second urban property.
• No overlap: You will not receive any further public or private funding for the same purpose.
• Study load: You are enrolled for at least 42 credit points this year and were also enrolled for that number last year. Fewer credit points will only be taken into account if they are the last ones required to graduate, and only once.
• Grades: First-year students must achieve an admission score of at least 5.00. Students in higher semesters must have earned at least 60% of the credit points required in the previous year (50% for engineering degree programmes).

How to apply

You should submit your application using the official form, which you can find on the university’s website. The application deadline for the 2026/27 round is 30 November 2026, and decisions will be made by 31 December 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very specific: you must be studying at a particular university and meet strict income and asset limits, which means that the pool of eligible applicants is small. With a total funding allocation of 50,000 EUR and an upper limit of 1,500 EUR, only a few dozen students can be supported, which is why clear, well-documented evidence of financial need is crucial. If you meet the income limits and satisfy the minimum academic requirements, your chances are good, particularly if you apply early.
