About this award / prize

What the ESADE Academic Merit Awards give you

A portion of your ESADE tuition fees will be waived, from 25% up to 100%, if you have been admitted on the basis of outstanding academic achievement. There are two options. The Distinction Award applies for one academic year and cannot be extended. The Excellence Award can apply for a period ranging from one year to the full duration of your degree programme or dual degree programme. If it has been granted for more than one year, you can renew it annually. To be eligible for renewal, you must pass all your exams and either be amongst the top 40% in your year group or achieve an overall average of at least 8 out of 10. These are merit-based scholarships, so your family income is not a factor. You may combine this funding with other financial support options, such as the ESADE Income Share Agreement (where you repay a proportion of your future salary rather than paying fees upfront), provided that the total amount does not exceed 100% of your annual tuition fees. You may only apply for one form of funding.

Who can apply

  • Admission: You have already been admitted to a bachelor’s degree programme or a dual degree programme at ESADE in Barcelona.
  • Field of study: Open to all ESADE Bachelor’s degree programmes, including Business Administration (BBA), Law and ‘Global Governance, Economics & Legal Order’.
  • Grades: You have top marks. As a guide: previous winners achieved around 90% of the highest possible mark in their system, for example IB 39/42, French Baccalauréat 17/20, Spanish Bachillerato 9/10, German Abitur 1.6, A-Levels AAA or AAA*, or a US GPA of 3.6. However, achieving these marks does not guarantee an award.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Income: You do not need to prove that you have financial needs.

How to apply

Once you have been admitted to an ESADE programme, you should apply online via the ESADE applicant portal. You will need to submit your academic transcript, the application form and a personal statement (a short text explaining why you should be awarded the scholarship). There is no fixed application deadline. Scholarship awards are decided throughout the year, based on your overall profile and the funds still available. You will be notified of the result individually.

How realistic are your chances?

As this is a merit-based scholarship at a selective private university, the requirements are high and the number of scholarships awarded is limited by the budget. The committee assesses your personal statement and your overall profile, not just your grades; therefore, a compelling, well-rounded application is just as important as top marks. Places are awarded throughout the year until the funds have been exhausted; therefore, applying immediately after your admission significantly improves your chances.
