What the Pere Tarrés scholarships give you

The Pere Tarrés Faculty is part of Ramon Llull University in Barcelona. It offers a discount on tuition fees for its Bachelor’s degree programmes in Social Pedagogy and Social Work. You will not receive a fixed sum of money, but rather a percentage discount on your tuition fees. There are various ways to qualify for this:

• Ayuda Pere Tarrés (need-based): to 40% A reduction in your fees if your family cannot afford the full cost.
• Banco Santander excellence award: 60% for particularly high-achieving first-year students, 4 places.
• TI Social award: to 15%, 2 places, if you have written your school essay on a social issue.
• Best final grades (graduates): 80% as part of a postgraduate programme or a Master’s degree.
• Best final thesis (graduates): 1,000 euros for further study.

These bonuses cannot be combined.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are currently studying or enrolling on a Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Pedagogy or Social Work at the Pere Tarrés Faculty. These are the only two degree programmes offered by the faculty.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• For the need-based Ayuda Pere Tarrés: Your family is unable to cover the full cost of your studies. You can provide evidence of this by submitting tax returns, payslips and proof of rent or mortgage payments for the entire household.
• For the Santander excellence award: You are a first-year undergraduate student with an outstanding final grade: 8.5 or higher in the Bachillerato, or an average mark of 9 or higher in the CFGS vocational qualification.
• For the TI Social award: You are a first-year student and have written your research paper (trabajo de investigación) on a social issue.

How to apply

You can apply for a scholarship as soon as you have pre-registered (preinscripción) for your degree programme. The general application deadline is 18 September. Current students in their 2 to 4 academic years between 18 June and 18 September; the decision will be made on 6 November. Academic scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so please apply early.

How realistic are your chances?

Your chances depend on which funding scheme you are applying for. The ‘Excellence’ and ‘TI Social’ funding schemes have only 4 and 2 places respectively, and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis; therefore, you will need both good grades and to apply early. The means-tested ‘Ayuda Pere Tarrés’ grant is not subject to such a limit. If you are enrolled on one of the two degree programmes and can demonstrate financial need, your prospects are good.
