Talent Attraction Scholarship at the University of Jaén

You will receive a full scholarship for a Master’s degree at University of Jaén in southern Spain. The university offers two options. Option A covers 100% of your tuition fees, administrative fees and student insurance. In addition, you will receive 3,190 EUR per year to cover accommodation and living costs, as well as free Spanish lessons if you do not yet speak the language. Type B covers your tuition fees, course fees and free Spanish lessons, but does not include the annual allowance for living costs. Thirty scholarships are awarded per cycle: 20 of Type A and 10 of Type B. Some scholarship holders also receive an additional grant from Santander of between 500 and 2,000 EUR, although this is not guaranteed. The funding lasts for the duration of your Master’s programme: one year for a programme with 60 credits, up to two years for a programme with 120 credits. You can extend the funding if you pass at least 90% of the credits you have registered for your programme.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolling on an accredited Master’s programme at the University of Jaén, at either the Jaén or Linares campus.
• Field of study: Your Master’s programme must be included on the specified list of eligible programmes. These include health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities and engineering (for example, biotechnology, environmental and industrial engineering, food safety, tourism management and cultural heritage).
• Nationality: You are a national of one of the countries listed in the call for applications and come from a non-Spanish education system. The countries listed include, amongst others, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, Tunisia, Russia and other CIS states.
• Degree: You hold a bachelor’s degree that qualifies you for admission to your chosen master’s programme, or you will complete this by 31 July of the application year.
• Grades: You have a score of at least 8.0 on a scale of 10 points.
• Age: You will be at least 18 years old on 1 May of the application year.
• Language: Your Spanish language skills should be roughly equivalent to level B2, as most courses are taught in Spanish. Only for the Master’s programme in Telecommunications Engineering is a knowledge of English alone sufficient.
• First-time applicant: You have not yet received a UJA Master’s scholarship and are not yet enrolled on the Master’s programme for which you are applying.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the University of Jaén. The application deadline is 15 February. Selection is based solely on academic merit; there is no interview. The university will take into account the relevance of your Bachelor’s degree to the Master’s programme, your grade point average and your proof of language proficiency.

How realistic are your chances?

The number of scholarships is strictly limited. Only nationals of the listed countries with a high grade point average of 8.0 and Spanish language skills at level B2 are eligible to apply, and only for specific Master’s programmes. A specific number of places is reserved for each country. This means that the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. If you clearly meet the requirements regarding grades, language skills and nationality, and your Bachelor’s degree is relevant to your chosen Master’s programme, your chances are good. It is advisable to apply well in advance of the February deadline.
