About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a grant of one-off travel grant of about 1,400 EUR on average, ranging from 900 to 3,100 EUR for a period of study abroad. The amount depends on how long you will be abroad and where you are going. You will receive approximately 2,200 EUR for one semester or 2,800 EUR for two semesters outside the USA and Canada, and 2,500 EUR (one semester) or 3,100 EUR (two semesters) for the USA. If your host institution already provides you with free accommodation (excluding meals), the grant amounts to 900 EUR for one semester or 1,600 EUR for two semesters. The grant covers travel and living expenses. It does not cover accommodation or meals that are already included in your placement. It is paid by the University of Burgos in Spain and is tax-free under Spanish income tax regulations.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Burgos (UBU) in Spain and will remain so throughout your stay abroad.
- Your placement: You have already been offered a place on UBU-Global, UBU’s own exchange programme for studying abroad outside the Erasmus scheme.
- In person: Your period of study abroad must take place in person, not online. If any part of it takes place online, only the semester completed in person will be funded.
- Level: Open to Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students, as well as to those with older degree titles such as ‘Licenciatura’ and ‘Ingeniería’.
- Field of study: Open to all degree programmes at UBU.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Credits: You are taking at least 12 ECTS in one semester or 24 ECTS over two semesters.
- Not eligible: Your work placement already includes both free accommodation and free meals.
How to apply
You must submit the official application form to the University of Burgos, either in paper form at the Registrar’s Office and the faculty offices, or via the online portal. For the 2024-2025 round, the deadline was 2 July. A committee chaired by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation reviews the applications and publishes a provisional decision. You then have five days to lodge an appeal before the final decision is made.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is aimed exclusively at students who have already secured a place on the UBU Global Programme, so the number of eligible candidates is small. The total budget amounts to up to 70,000 euros. Whilst this is limited, so too is the number of people who meet the eligibility criteria. If your placement has been confirmed, you have achieved the minimum number of credit points and you apply by the deadline, your chances are good.
