About this scholarship
What the Förderungsstipendium gives you
You will receive a one-off payment of up to 3,600 EUR to cover the costs of producing your final thesis. This is not a monthly grant, but a lump sum paid by the University of Salzburg to cover actual research expenses. Eligible costs include a research trip abroad, the purchase of specialist literature, literature searches, materials, and the photocopying and binding of your thesis. You must subsequently provide evidence of how you spent the money by submitting receipts, and repay any unused portion. Computer hardware and your living expenses are not covered.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled on a standard degree programme at the University of Salzburg.
- Type of work: You are currently writing a bachelor’s thesis, master’s thesis or doctoral thesis that has not yet been completed. The thesis must be registered in the university’s thesis management system (PAAV) and approved by your dean.
- Field of study: Open to all degree programmes across all seven faculties, including Theology.
- Study duration: You are still within the standard duration of your degree programme, plus one additional semester. Delays caused by, for example, a semester abroad or the birth of a child may be taken into account in your favour.
- Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen or are treated as such under the Austrian Student Financial Aid Act. EU citizens are treated as equivalent. Other applicants may need to provide additional documentation from their faculty.
- Expert backing: A university lecturer confirms in a written report that your expenses are justified and that you are expected to complete your dissertation with above-average results.
How to apply
You must submit the application form, a description of your dissertation, a timetable, a cost and funding plan, and your supervisor’s report to your faculty secretariat, addressed to the Dean. You may only submit the application in paper form, either in person or by post. There are two deadlines per year: 30 June for the summer term and 30 October for the following winter term. You will be notified of the decision in writing.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is aimed at students in Salzburg who are currently actively working on their final thesis; the pool of applicants is therefore limited to this group. If you can demonstrate a clearly defined project, a clear cost plan and a convincing recommendation from your supervisor, your chances are good. Please note that you have no legal entitlement to the funding, even if you meet all the requirements; a convincing, well-documented case is therefore crucial.
