About this scholarship

Vice Chancellor's Award (University College Birmingham)

You will receive your full tuition fees covered for your first year scholarship at University College Birmingham in the United Kingdom. This is a merit-based award for international students, granted in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, leadership qualities and community engagement. Every year, UCB awards this prize to the top recipients of its 100+ merit scholarships.

Who can apply

  • Offer of a place: You have received and accepted an offer for a full-time degree programme at the UCB, either at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. Part-time and distance-learning programmes are not included.
  • Fee status: You pay the tuition fees for international students (from abroad), not the tuition fees for domestic students.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Field of study: All participants are eligible to take part.
  • Grades: To enrol on a Bachelor’s degree programme, you will need 144 UCAS points (or the international equivalent). To enrol on a Master’s degree programme, you will need a degree with a ‘First Class Honours’ classification (or the international equivalent).
  • Deposit: You must pay a deposit of at least 1,000 GBP within 14 days of receiving the scholarship offer, otherwise the scholarship will lapse.

How to apply

Once you have received an offer, please apply via the UCB online form. Include a statement of 500 words outlining your achievements, your career goals and your contribution to society. For a start date in September 2026, the application deadline is 31 May 2026; for a start date in February 2027, it is 31 October 2026. You will be notified of the result by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This is UCB’s most generous award, so the bar is set high: you’ll need not only a place at university, but also excellent grades and demonstrable leadership qualities or community involvement. If you meet the academic requirements and can demonstrate a genuine impact in your 500 words, your prospects are good, especially as UCB awards 100+ merit scholarships each year. Apply early, as places must be secured quickly due to the deposit requirement.
