About this scholarship
East Lothian Educational Trust grant
You will receive a one-off grant of up to about 1,150 EUR (1,000 GBP) for a school trip, a course, a study project, an educational trip or a stay abroad. The grant covers your actual costs up to a maximum of 1,000 GBP, so you will never be paid more than the activity actually costs. The funding comes from a Scottish charity that has been funding educational initiatives in East Lothian since 1935.
Who can apply
- Where you live: You live in the ‘old’ County of East Lothian. This covers the area now served by East Lothian Council; however, residents of Musselburgh, Wallyford and Whitecraig are not eligible to apply.
- What it funds: You are a pupil taking part in a school trip, or a student undertaking a degree course, a course or a project for educational purposes, including studying abroad and educational trips.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they live in the eligible area.
- Financial need: The Foundation gives priority to people who are in financial difficulty or facing other obstacles. You may be asked to provide details of your own income or that of your household.
How to apply
Please request an application form by email and then return the completed form to the same address. There is no set deadline.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding is very geographically limited. You must live in the former County of East Lothian, with the exception of three towns; consequently, the group of eligible applicants is small and there are few applicants. If you live in the region and can demonstrate a clear educational purpose and, where applicable, financial need, your chances are good. As a local charity with limited resources, it rewards well-founded, honest applications.
