About this scholarship
Benefit
This scheme offered first-year students from low-income families a support package worth a total of around 10,500 EUR (about 9,000 GBP) for the entire duration of their undergraduate degree at the University of Kent. In the first year, it comprised a reduction in tuition fees of 7,000 GBP, as well as 1,000 GBP in cash and 1,000 GBP in the form of university credits. In the second and third years, 2,000 GBP was made available annually towards their studies. The funding was provided jointly by the UK government and the university. It was intended to offset the higher tuition fees introduced in the year 2012.
Eligibility
- University: You studied at the University of Kent in England.
- Degree: You’ve just completed your first bachelor’s degree.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Nationality: This offer is open to students from the UK, as well as from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
- Financial need: Their household income was less than 25,000 GBP per year. Kent also used its own funds to support a number of students from households with an income below 42,600 GBP and provided support to former care leavers (people who grew up in the care system).
How to apply
You can no longer apply. The National Scholarship Programme was a temporary government initiative that ran for just three years, from 2012-13 to 2014-15. The UK government withdrew funding and discontinued the programme from 2015 onwards. The University of Kent now offers other scholarships and grants instead, none of which, however, are direct successors to this programme.
