About this scholarship

Church Board ecumenical scholarships

You have been awarded a cost-covering scholarship to study ecumenism at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute in Switzerland. Ecumenism refers to cooperation and dialogue between Christian churches. The scholarship covers your actual, documented study costs; there is therefore no fixed amount. It funds a place on the supplementary certificate programme in Ecumenical Studies, which runs during the autumn semester from September to January. Two scholarships are awarded per round. The funding comes from the Church Council (Kyrkostyrelsen), the national governing body of the Church of Sweden (Svenska kyrkan).

Who can apply

  • Field of study: You would like to study ecumenism and interfaith dialogue at the Bossey Institute, which is affiliated with the University of Geneva.
  • Background knowledge: You are already familiar with the basics of the Church of Sweden and ecumenism.
  • Church link: You have a connection to the Church of Sweden.
  • Age: The scholarship is primarily aimed at young adults, but even if you are older than 30, you can still apply.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted by email to the Ecumenical Officer of the Church of Sweden. In your application, please describe the course you wish to undertake, which costs the scholarship is intended to cover, and why you are applying for this place. The application deadline is 30 November for courses starting the following autumn.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very selective: only two places are awarded per round, and these are tied to a specific degree programme and a concrete connection to the Church of Sweden. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you are already familiar with the Church of Sweden and ecumenism and can write a compelling personal statement, your chances are good.
