About this scholarship
Lars Erik Lundberg Foundation research grant
You will receive a research grant of at least EUR 90,000 per year, amounting to up to approximately 135,000 euros per year (approximately 1 to 1.5 million SEK), for a project lasting between one and three years. PhD projects may run for a continuous period of four years and are designated as ‘Lars-Erik-Lundberg PhD posts’; they are funded to the tune of approximately EUR 360,000 in total (4 million SEK). Funding is provided by the Swedish Lars-Erik Lundberg Foundation for Research and Education. These funds are used to support research that combines engineering or the natural sciences with business administration and economics. The focus is on how technology drives the competitiveness of businesses. Typical topics include production and product development, as well as the framework conditions for innovation and entrepreneurship. Around two to four projects are funded each year.
Who can apply
- Who you are: You are a senior researcher, associate professor (‘biträdande professor’), professor emeritus, postdoctoral researcher or PhD student.
- Where you work: You work at a Swedish university.
- Field: Your project combines engineering or natural sciences with economics or business administration, focusing on technology and the competitiveness of businesses.
- Project quality: You have a clear, new research question that can actually be answered using your methods, and you can demonstrate how this question advances research.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are affiliated with a Swedish institution.
- Salary note: The funding does not cover the salaries of tenured or appointed professors, but may be awarded to associate professors and professors emeritus.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s system (researchweb.org). The application window is open once a year from 1 to 29 January. The selection process takes place in two stages. First, an expert panel reviews the short applications at stage 1. The projects selected around mid-February will be invited to submit a full application at stage 2. The Executive Board will make a decision in April. Projects with a distinct, novel research question will be given preference.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. You must be a researcher at a Swedish institution and be working specifically at the interface between technology and business administration, meaning that very few people meet the criteria. Nevertheless, only two to four projects receive funding each year, meaning that competition amongst those who qualify is very fierce. The decisive factor is a concise, genuinely novel research question.
