School of Electrical Engineering - Financial aid for summer studies abroad

Travel grant for summer courses abroad (Aalto ELEC)

You receive a one-off grant of up to 500 EUR. The exact amount depends on the cost of your summer school. The grant covers your travel costs and/or the course fees for a summer course held abroad. It is awarded by the School of Electrical Engineering (ELEC) at Aalto University in Helsinki, which gives up to 4 of these grants each year. You get the money once you have an acceptance letter from the summer school you will attend.

Who can apply

• Your school: You are a bachelor's or master's student at Aalto University's School of Electrical Engineering (ELEC).
• Grades: You have a grade point average of at least 2.0 on the Aalto scale.
• Study progress: You have completed at least 30 credits. If you were admitted straight into a master's programme, one full semester is enough.
• The course: You join a summer school or summer course abroad. Courses at ELEC's partner universities come first. Other summer schools can be funded case by case.
• Credits count: The credits you earn at the summer school can be added to your Aalto degree.
• No double funding: You do not receive other Aalto funding for the same course, such as an Erasmus+ short-term mobility grant.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you study at Aalto ELEC.

How to apply

Apply by email to the ELEC outgoing office by 31 May. Use the subject line "Summer course grant application". Send a short motivation letter with the course programme and a cost estimate. Add confirmation from your study planner that the credits can count towards your degree. The host university's acceptance letter can follow later. If there are more applicants than grants, the decision is based on your weighted grade average.
