About this scholarship
What you get
If you are nominated for an official exchange abroad, Tampere University gives you a grant toward your exchange that can cover preparation, travel and living costs. The amount depends on which programme or agreement you go through and how long you stay away. You also pay no tuition fees at the host university. The money comes through several funding lines, depending on where you go:
- Erasmus+ and Nordlys: for exchanges in EU/EEA countries, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and the Nordic countries.
- Bilateral and ISEP exchange: for partner universities worldwide, especially North America. A bilateral grant can be awarded only once per student.
- north2north and Erasmus+ ICM (Global): for the Nordic region and destinations outside Europe, such as Georgia, Ghana and Rwanda.
- Fulbright-Idman Grant: up to 70,000 USD (about 64,000 EUR) per year for a full master's degree in the USA. You need a Tampere bachelor's degree or a school-leaving qualification from the Tampere region. The next round is in spring 2027.
- Idman Foundation grants: a new fund of about 500,000 EUR per year for study abroad, covering tuition, travel and living costs at leading world universities. The first round is in spring 2027.
- Family and accessibility grant: extra money if you have family responsibilities or a disability.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled at Tampere University, working towards a bachelor's or master's degree.
- How you go: You are officially nominated through an exchange programme or agreement of Tampere University. Self-arranged study places or courses booked through commercial providers are not funded.
- Study effort: You complete at least 5 ECTS credits per full exchange month at the host university. If you earn fewer, the grant can be reclaimed.
- Timing: You cannot go on exchange in your final master's semester or during an approved extension of your study time.
- Doctoral students: If you are a doctoral student employed by Tampere University during the exchange, you cannot get Erasmus+ grants.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
How to apply
You apply through Tampere University's Mobility-Online portal during the set application rounds. The round for destinations outside Europe in 2027/28 runs from 26 October to 16 November 2026, closing at 23:59. First you apply internally to Tampere University, then you are nominated to the host university. Selection looks at your GPA (grade average), study year, language skills and the host university's own requirements.
